Smartphone penetration reaches more than 60 percent of school students
Delhi: The Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) 2020 is released on Wednesday. It states that more than 60 percent of school students have smartphone access. The ASER report has been prepared in the sixth month of school closure and surveys the distance education system, materials and activities of students in India as well as access to distance education options in homes etc.
This report also states that three-fourths of the children have been helped by family members in studies during the school closure due to the corona epidemic. The report says that more than 60 percent of the registered school students come from families who have at least one smartphone.
In the last two years, this ratio has risen sharply from 36.5 per cent to 61.8 per cent among registered children. There has been a similar increase in percentage of families of students registered in both government and private schools.
Increase in the proportion of children of smartphone-holding families in these states
The report also describes the states in which the proportion of children from smartphone-holding families has increased. According to the report, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Tripura are states where the proportion of children with smartphone-holding families has increased by more than 30 percent.
